Borrow something unexpected: Tenafly's Library of Things
Games and learning kits offer another way to use your library card.
Tenafly Public Library's Library of Things extends borrowing beyond the bookshelf. Its adult-programs page lists board and card games, STEM kits including Ozobots and Snap Circuits, museum passes, and mobile hotspots. The collection gives residents a way to explore an activity before deciding whether to make it a permanent part of home life.
The library says this collection is for Tenafly cardholders and that items must be picked up and returned at Tenafly. Most items have a two-week loan, while museum passes follow a shorter schedule. Check the particular item's availability and terms with staff; a category appearing online does not guarantee an item is ready to borrow.
For a first try, choose one game or kit and set aside time to learn it. Keep the packaging and components together, and note the return date when you collect it. A borrowed activity can turn an ordinary evening into an opportunity to try something different without adding another box to the closet.
